January 13, 2014, 5:51 AM by Scot Mundt

Storm Center Update - Monday AM

Snow will develop by the afternoon for the northern Black Hills of western South Dakota.  The snow will be heavy at times and winds will be strong creating blowing snow and reduced visibilities.

Snow amounts will range from four to eight inches by Tuesday morning; Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the Hills starting 11AM and lasting into Tuesday.  Use caution when traveling in and around the Hills today and tonight.

A light wintry mix will develop in north central South Dakota during the noon hour and move east.  The light wintry mix will make it to Interstate 29 around five or six o’clock.  Along with the wintry mix, winds will be increasing from the northwest during the evening and overnight.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for parts of eastern and northeast KELOLAND starting late this afternoon and lasting into Tuesday afternoon.  Snow amounts in the advisory will range from one to two inches, but strong northwest winds will create blowing snow and reduced visibilities.  Highs today will be in the thirties and forties.

Skies will become partly cloudy on Tuesday and winds will remain strong.  Expect a cooler day with afternoon temperatures in the twenties and thirties.

Wednesday will be a little warmer with highs in the thirties and forties but another round of cooler air will return on Thursday and last into Friday.
