Storm Center Update - Friday PM

November 9, 2012, 2:58 PM by Ben Cathey

The storm to our west is still on track for moving in late this evening.  We’ll have areas of low clouds and fog to go along with drizzle tonight.

The center of the storm will dig south through Nebraska and will then move back northeast into KELOLAND tomorrow.  The system is speeding up though, and should be out of our area by early on Sunday.

Winds will breezy overnight in the far western parts of South Dakota.  The warm front will move into SE KELOLAND and this setup will cause clouds, fog and drizzle.  Basically, by morning many will have a gray start to the weekend.

Winds will start off strong tomorrow across the area.  Highs will only break into the 30s far west and will be close to 70 in NW Iowa. Sioux Falls will start as rain while central South Dakota will see a mix of rain, sleet and snow. In Rapid City and the Hills most of the action will be snow. Though the best snow and moisture amounts will mostly be to our north, we’ll actually see some better totals in south-central South Dakota. As this moves quickly towards the Great Lakes, Arctic winds will wrap-around and leave us with an icy Sunday. Rains will turn into snow for eastern KELOLAND but most will be done with by sunrise Sunday. Most of us will not even hit 30 for highs Sunday!

We have the coldest air yet this fall about to move in.  Monday morning will be the coldest, with some along the North Dakota border nearing the single digits!

Next week we’ll slowly warm back up.  Next Thursday looks like it could be warmer than average.
