Steady Stream Of Voters Deciding Events Center

November 8, 2011, 4:52 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Steady Stream Of Voters Deciding Events Center
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Yes or no?  It's a simple choice but a complicated matter when it involves a $115 million plan to build an events center in Sioux Falls.

It's a big decision for Sioux Falls residents. And the steady stream of voters illustrates just how important it is for the city.

"It's important for everyone because of the size of this project. It's a big capital improvement and it will have to be repaid so that's why we have to vote one way or the other," voter Jack Marshman said.

This election has been more than a year in the making. In that time, voters have had plenty of information to digest. Now, what becomes of the proposed center is in their hands.

"I'm not sure that this events center is the correct choice for our city," voter Judy Cronin said.

"I think we've been studying the events center for 10, 12 years and it's certainly time we approve this and put it in place," voter Bob Hemre said.

Most voters say they have no idea how the vote will turn out tonight, so they'll be watching as the results roll in.

"If it goes one way I'll be happy.  If it goes the other way I'll be happy. I have very mixed emotions," Cronin said.

"It will be nice to have it settled, but even if it's voted down, I think it's going to rise again," Marshman said.

But what exactly the future holds will start to take shape after the 57 polls close. Many polling locations opened to lines of people eager to vote.
