The South Dakota State's Attorneys Association has named Lawrence County State's Attorney John Fitzgerald as prosecutor of the year.
At its recent annual meeting in Deadwood, the association also gave Mellette County State's Attorney Mick Strain a lifetime achievement award.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says Fitzgerald has been prosecuting crime in western South Dakota for more than 32 years and has worked to seek justice and be an advocate for victim's rights.
Jackley says Strain has been a dedicated prosecutor for more than a quarter of a century. He says the lifetime achievement award illustrates the respect Strain has earned from his peers.
