Sioux Falls will be hosting a lot of visitors this weekend. Along with Ribfest, Sioux Falls is hosting high school boys and girls state track meets at Howard Wood and O'Gorman High School. Another portion of the state track meet will be held in Madison. The Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau expects this event will bring in a very large crowd.
“As long as the sun is shining and no rain it's a great day to have state track meet," event organizer Mark Meile said.
The only thing organizers have to worry about is the weather being nice as they look forward to hosting many families and students athletes today and tomorrow.
"Howard Wood Field is one of the better track and field facilities in the upper Midwest, especially at the high school level, so we like to be able to showcase that," Mark Miley said.
After practicing and competing for several months the moment these student athletes have been waiting for is finally here.
"It's pretty amazing. I wouldn't be here without my team though so that's pretty cool," Brooklyn Brower said.
Brooklyn Bower is only in 8th grade but she will be competing in the medley relay along with her teammates.
"I am looking forward to beating my time and hopefully making the podium in our relay," Brower said.
"The state track meet is a big deal for Sioux Falls when you talk about 8,000 participants and their families you know that's a lot of people," Teri Schmidt, Executive Director for Sioux Falls Conventions and Visitors Bureau, said. "Sioux Falls becomes their home for the weekend so it's a big day for Sioux Falls. It's important for us to roll out the red carpet and make it their home for the weekend.”
For Brower, she's hoping her hard work will pay off and her teammates will be able to place at the state track meet.
"It will be breath-taking; it will be amazing," Brower said.
Events start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
