We are finding out just how much this year's executions cost the state of South Dakota.
In the execution of Eric Robert for the death of Correction Officer Ron 'RJ' Johnson, personal services equaled nearly $44,000 and operating expenses were more than $16,000 for a total cost of more than $60,500.
Just a few weeks later, Donald Moeller was executed for the kidnapping, rape and murder of nine-year-old Becky O’Connell. His personal expenses were more than $38,000 with operating expenses of more than $22,000. The total cost was more than $60,600.
