Some concerned phone calls turned into a police pursuit and then standoff in Dell Rapids.
20-year-old Tahlen Bourassa is in court Thursday and could face new charges.
Authorities arrested him on Wednesday. He was wanted on felony charges for grand theft and ingesting a controlled substance.
After a car chase on gravel roads, a Dell Rapids resident led deputies to a business south of town where Bourassa was hiding.
Authorities had heard the suspect had a sawed-off shotgun and possibly was under the influence of meth. People who had called in were worried about him and feared he may be suicidal.
"Basically, you know, with somebody in that frame of mind. If they're paranoid, which meth tends to make people paranoid, if they're on it enough. You know, we don't want them hurting someone else, purposely or accidentally," Jason Gearman with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office said.
Following a four-hour standoff, Bourassa surrendered to authorities around 9 p.m.
Police are still looking for the sawed-off shotgun. If you have any information about it, you’er asked to call police.
