Stampede Beefs Up Roster During Phase II Of Draft

Sioux Falls, SD—The Sioux Falls Stampede beefed up their roster for the upcoming 2014-15 season, selecting 14 forwards, 9 defensemen and 1 goaltender for a total of 24 players during Phase II of the USHL Draft Tuesday. All the players drafted will be invited to the Stampede’s tryout camp the first weekend in June in Minneapolis. 

Players were selected from multiple birth years, filling their protected list to 45 players. That list includes players drafted today as well as protected players from last year’s squad, affiliate players from the 2013-14 season, players selected in Phase I of the draft yesterday and any players who have been signed to a tender.

The Stampede selected defenseman Dillion Eichstadt with their first pick (13th overall) in the Phase II Draft. Eichstadt spent the past season with the Aberdeen Wings in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he recorded 35 points (4g, 31a) and was a plus-14 in 51 games. The 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed shot from Bemidji, MN helped lead the Wings to a second place finish in the Central Division.
The Herd did not have a selection in round 2, but in round 3, they selected forward Troy Loggins from Huntington Beach, CA. The winger led the Wenatchee Wild in scoring this past season, posting 53 points (23g, 30a) in 53 games. He participated in the 2014 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament and was named to the All-NAHL Rookie 2nd Team.

With their second pick of the third round, the Herd took defenseman Joey Raats from Las Vegas, NV. The 6-foot-0, 182-pound right-handed shot spent this past season skating for Drumheller Dragons in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL). He tallied 24 points (5g, 19a) in 34 games while leading the Dragons to the championship round.

With their third pick of the third round (50th overall), the Herd went with right winger Joey Marooney. A native of Eden Prairie, MN, Marooney spent this past season skating for Holy Family Catholic High School where he finished third on the team in scoring with 46 points (19g, 27a) in 25 games. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound winger also skated for the Minnesota Great 8 and with the Minnesota Seniors Elite Team. He has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Alabama-Huntsville in the WCHA.

The Herd did not have a pick in rounds 4-6, but returned in round 7 to select right defenseman Chris Pohlkamp (117th overall)  from Brainerd, MN. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound de-man posted 28 points (10g, 18a) in 21 games with Brainerd High School. The Lake City, MN native also skated in the Minnesota Great 8 Festival and on the Minnesota Seniors. He is the brother of former Fargo Force forward Matt Pohlkamp. 

With their sixth pick in the draft (8th round, 117th overall), Sioux Falls went with defenseman Phelan Shaw from Calgary, Alberta. The 5-foot-11, 162-pound right-handed shot tallied 17 points (6g, 11a) in 43 games with the Calgary Mustangs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). He was named Rookie of the Year during their annual team awards in April. He has already committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Also in the 8th round (132nd overall), the Stampede took William (Bo) Brauer from Edina, MN. He spent this past season with the Nanaimo Clippers Jr. A Hockey Club of the BCHL. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound right winger tallied 35 points (19g, 16a) in 56 games. He recorded seven power play goals while leading the Clippers to a playoff appearance. Prior to joining the Clippers, the forward skated at Edina High School.

With their eighth pick (9th round, 148th overall), Sioux Falls selected Brett Supinski from Collegeville, PA. The 5-foot-11, 154-pound forward can play both center and right wing and spent this past season with the Connecticut Wolf Pack. He also played at Millbrook PS where he tallied 41 points (20g, 21a) in 32 games. He has already committed to Union College.

In the 10th round (164th overall), Sioux Falls selected forward Cole Smith from Brainerd, MN. The left winger recorded 41 points (18g, 23a) in 23 games.  At 6-foot-2, 175-pounds he has good size and can put the puck in the back of the net. He went on to record a goal and an assist in two playoff games.

With their 10th selection in the draft (11th round, 180th overall), the Herd went with New Jersey native Ryan O’Connor. The 5-foot-11, 177-pound left-handed shot recorded eight points (3g, 5a) in 50 games with the Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep Team in Minnesota.

In round 12, the Herd added a familiar name to their roster, selecting defenseman Eddie Eades of East Grand Forks, MN. He is the son of Stampede head coach Cary Eades and has great size at 6-foot, 200-pounds. Eades was instrumental in leading East Grand Forks to their first ever Minnesota State A Championship this past season. In 25 games, Eades recorded 16 points (7g, 9a).

With their second pick in the 12th round (196th overall), Sioux Falls selected center Michael Carcone from Whitby, Ontario. He led the Stouffville Spirit in scoring with 37 points (12g, 25a) in 49 games. He tallied three power play goals and three shorthanded goals. In 2012-13, he posted 73 points (30g, 43a) in 71 games with Hill Academy U18.

In the 13th round, the Herd took another center in Patrick Shea who posted an impressive 55 points (19g, 36a) in 21 games. He also skated for the Cape Cod Whalers U16 where he registered 14 points (6g, 8a) in 11 games. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward has already committed to play college hockey at the University of Maine.

In round 14, the Herd took another center in Aaron Herdt of Moorhead, MN. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound speedy forward led Moorhead High School in scoring with 40 points (22g, 18a) in just 24 games. He recorded seven points (3g, 4a) in three playoff games while leading the Spuds to the section championship game.

Sioux Falls went big in Round 15, selecting 6-foot-2, 215-pound defenseman, William Feeney. The Foxboro, MA native tallied 37 points (3g, 34a) in 26 games for Dexter school in the New England Prep League.

In round 16, Sioux Falls chose centerman Owen Sillinger from Regina, Sask. in Canada. He registered 27 points (18g, 9a ) in 36 games for the Regina Pats Canadians Midget AAA team. Sillinger is 5-foot-7, 145-pounds and posted four power play goals during the season before recording 12 points (1g, 11a) in nine postseason games.

In the 17th round, Sioux Falls selected a familiar name to Stampede fans in Andrew Lindgren. He is the brother of former Herd goaltender Charlie Lindgren. Andrew is also a goaltender and went 15-9-1 with a 1.78 Goals Against Average, a .932 save percentage and five shutouts in 25 games with Eagan High School as a junior. He appeared in two games during the Minnesota State High School League Tournament, going 1-1 with a 1.01 GAA. 
In round 18, the Herd took defenseman Brendan Valko from Kitchener, Ontario. He stands at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds and spent this past season at Hill Academy U18.

In the 19th round, the Herd grabbed another centerman in Drew Callin from Middleton, WI. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound forward spent this past season skating for the Janesville Jets of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He finished fifth on the team in scoring with 33 points (16g, 17a) in 56 games while leading the Jets to a playoff appearance. He is no stranger to the USHL, having played in 25 games with the Des Moines Buccaneers in 2012-13. He is already committed to Bentley University.

In round 20, the Herd selected another familiar name in Ryner Gorowsky from Centennial High School in Minnesota. He is the younger brother of former Stampede star and #1 USHL pick Tom Gorowsky. Ryner was captain of the Cougars and led the team in scoring with 35 points (20g, 15a) in 24 games. He helped lead the Cougars to the Minnesota State AA High School Hockey Tournament, recording 8 points (6g, 2a) in four postseason games.

Sioux Falls grabbed a center in Tanner MacMaster in round 21. The Calgary, Alberta native tallied 40 points (11g, 29a) in 48 games with the Camrose Kodiaks. He tallied six power play goals and 62 penalty minutes on the season. He has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac University.

In round 22, the Herd went overseas to grab forward Lubomir Fetkovic from Slovakia. He spent this past season skating with the Ontario Avalanche in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL).  He posted 59 points (22g, 37a) in 46 games. Five goals game on the power play and three were game-winning goals. He stands at 6-foot and 185-pounds and is considered to have good speed and is physically sound.

The Stampede then took Justin Wells, a left defenseman, in round 23 of the draft. He has good size at 6-foot, 165-pounds and spent this past season skating with the Cleveland Barons Minor Midget  team, tallying eight points (2g, 6a) in 32 games.

With their final pick of the draft, Sioux Falls selected right winger Sean Montgomery from Calgary, Alberta. He had an impressive season with 37 points (19g, 18a) in 35 games with the Calgary Royals Midget AAA team. He registered five power play goals and just two penalty minutes while helping guide the Royals to the playoffs.
