Spearfish Officials Mull City History Museum

SPEARFISH, SD -
Officials in Spearfish are gauging support for a museum that would feature the history of the western South Dakota city.
City Councilman Doug Schmit has pushed the idea of a museum for several years. He says that there are a lot of artifacts that should be preserved and put on display. But he says it will take a lot of people coming together to make it work.
Schmit says the initial idea is to renovate the basement of City Hall and turn the unused space into a museum.
Spearfish Historic Preservation Commission Chairman Greg Dias says any museum would need to complement and not compete with the existing High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish.
