South Dakota Farmers Relieved By Recent Rain

South Dakota Farmers Relieved By Recent Rain
ABERDEEN, SD -

South Dakota farmers are welcoming recent rain with open arms and a message: Bring it on.

The rain that covered a swath of the state over the weekend boosted farmers' spirits, as do forecasts predicting more showers later this week.

Corey Eberhart, who farms near Java, says the 1.6 inches of rain in eastern Walworth County "might have been our lifeline."

He says the hay was looking thin and the slow weekend rain soaked into the earth.

Glen Crawford, who farms north of Aberdeen, also was happy with his area's 2-plus inches. He says the skies had "kind of shut down for a while."

March had been one of the driest on record, with less than a half-inch of precipitation recorded in Aberdeen.
