Some People Have Doubts About Events Center

September 26, 2011, 6:00 PM by Don Jorgensen

Some People Have Doubts About Events Center
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Despite all the events center updates by the mayor and other city officials, people still have questions, mainly over money.

They have the design; they have the location.  Now city officials just need the support of the people. But some who we talked with on Monday still have questions and doubts.

"Will it cost more than they think it will," Darlen Lambert said.

"These are different times we are in, so I think that would be important for voters and people from the area,"
Laurie Lubbers said.

"The cost and is it going to be like the Washington Pavilion where you are constantly putting money into it,"  Joe Maxwell said.

Most we talked with like the location.

"Parking is going to be quite a ways away.  That would be the only thing, but I think all the other areas they looked at parking was always an issue," Sheba Schlaikjer said.

Some question if there'll be enough interest even with big name entertainers in town.

"Sioux Falls has a tough time supporting some of the events already; I think sometimes live music or live shows aren't supported as well as they should be you know, but I hope so," Kim Berven said.

The mayor has been holding regular meetings for the past several months, updating citizens on the events center, but he'll have to wait until the special election in November to see if they pay off.

"As long as they have some good country western acts, I will come and that's it," Gloria Maxwell said.

The city plans on borrowing the $115 million to build the events center and use private donations to operate it.
