Snow Removal Businesses Seeing Green

December 10, 2012, 5:21 PM by Stephanie Gregory

Snow Removal Businesses Seeing Green
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Money may not grow on trees, but for some small businesses, it falls to the ground. The precious commodity is on the roads, sidewalks and driveways; it is just about anywhere you look.

Dave Arneson, the owner of Big A’s, spends his summers keeping lawns green but hopes to cash in on the white as well.

"You can't do any of those other things in the winter, so we need snow to make money," Arneson said.

No matter how you shake it, this white winter weather is good for business.

"There is a lot of money in snow removal," Arneson said.

Josh Nielson with Seal Pros knows that well.  He drove in from Harrisburg to clear away snow for Sioux Falls businesses and homeowners.

"To stay busy is always good for workers who need the money," Nielson said.

After a mild winter in 2011, these businesses hope this year the snow keeps coming.  Arneson, only has one employee but he hopes to add to his staff, but first we need to see more flurries.

"Have a couple of guys out here doing the snow removal, trucks, skid loader and things like that," Arneson said.

In the meantime, small business owners are just happy to be working and hoping it lasts throughout the rest of the season.
