Snow Prediction Update: January

January 21, 2013, 6:19 PM by Scot Mundt

Snow Prediction Update: January

There wasn't much moisture content, but Sunday's light snow created a narrow band of two to three inches from northwest Iowa to east central South Dakota.  When it was over, Sioux Falls received 1.9 inches.

The nearly two inches of snow pushed the city's total for the season to 15.8.  That's just .10 of an inch away from the snow we had all of last year.

Through Sunday, Pierre is already dangerously close to my prediction.  It's about three-quarters of the way there with 16.2 inches.  Sioux Falls is 50 percent there while Aberdeen is just under halfway with 15.5 inches.  Rapid City and the Black Hills still need to play catch-up with only 14.5 inches in Rapid City and 63.5 in Lead.  Both locations are about a third of the way there.

Aside for the cold air sticking around, it doesn't look like any major systems are expected to roll through anytime soon.
