Do you believe in ghosts? Because over the last ten Halloweens rain has been hauntingly absent, leaving those around Sioux Falls bone dry.
The last moisture we picked up on Halloween was in 2003, when we had a trace of snow. Those few flakes didn't stick around for long, though, as that year ended warmer than normal.
The last two trick-or-treats have been on the mild side. Highs were right around 60 degrees. Today, we're closer to 2009 and 2010, when temperatures couldn't crack 50.
We saw more snow fly in 1995, but the last major snowstorm was back in 1991. Nearly nine inches of snow fell in Sioux Falls. That was enough to close the Interstate for a few days.
Still, some kids braved the elements.
That's the most Halloween moisture we've had since 1929 and by far the most snow. Some of those who wanted to trick-or-treat that night in '91 are back out, this time toting their own heroes and princesses along.
