This year, I'm predicting Sioux Falls will see 32 inches of snow. When I made the prediction, I mentioned 1976 and 2006. Both of those years Sioux Falls received snow in October.
October snow is not unusual. Since 1950, Sioux Falls has recorded measurable snow 25 times, or 41 percent, of the time. The snow averaged just under an inch.
The most memorable snow in October was in 1991 when 10 inches fell in Sioux Falls. It was the year of the Halloween blizzard.
Though I don't expect anything like this, I wouldn't be surprised if Sioux Falls gets measurable snow sometime in the next two weeks.
