Since announcing an exclusive partnership with the Miami Heat earlier this month, Skyforce management is getting excited for next season.
"We picked the right affiliate you know, we're with a team that knows what they're doing. Obviously they've now won back to back championships,” Mike Heinemann, owner of the Sioux Falls Skyforce said.
Although Mitchell native Mike Miller is a part of the NBA Championship team the Miami Heat, the Skyforce say that that actually had little to do with them partnering up with the new two-time World Champions.
"It's a nice perk, but we worked with the basketball operations people pretty exclusively on this. It really, Mikes relationship, didn't have a lot to do with it, but it's nice to have that connection," Heinemann said.
Skyforce super fan Lucas Dannenbring, who's sons are ball boys at the Skyforce games, is hoping to see a familiar face from Jackrabbit athletics wearing the Heat colors.
"You know the thing that I would love is if the Heat would draft Nate Wolters from South Dakota State, and then he'd get a little time maybe here in Sioux Falls that would be, that would be awesome." Dannonbring said.
Moving to a new arena this coming season, Heinemann is hoping to see tickets flying out of the box office, and some and a full house in the Sanford Pentagon.
"We're moving into a smaller building, 33-hundred seats, so we're hoping for a sell out every night. That's only going to happen if we do our jobs here and push the Heat thing as much as we can. But also we're going to rely on them to put a good team on the court for us, and if history tells us anything they should be pretty good at that,” Heinemann said.
