Sioux Falls Road Construction Update

Ten different road construction projects will start next week, starting on Monday.

Monday, June 9

Street Closure: Six Mile Road will close between 10th Street and State Highway 42. Work is expected to be completed in 4 to 5 weeks. Construction crews will be installing a water main. Motorists should use Powderhouse Road as an alternate route. 10th Street and State Highway 42 will be unaffected by the project.

Street Closure: Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 57th Street to 69th Street for construction crews to start the first phase of a two-year project. In 2014, crews will be grading, installing underground utilities, and replacing gravel surfacing. Motorists are encouraged to use Southeastern Avenue or Highway 11 as alternate routes. The project's completion is scheduled for October 2014.

Lane Closure: Starting at 7 p.m., the outside, westbound lane on 41st Street will be closed east of Kiwanis Avenue. A telecommunications company is installing fiber optic cable, and the work's completion is scheduled by 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Lane Closures: The outside and center eastbound lanes of 41st Street will be closed east of Empire Place. Eastbound traffic will use the inside eastbound lane. Xcel Energy will perform utility work. The work is anticipated to be finished by 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

Lane Closure: Both southbound lanes of Cliff Avenue will be closed north of 1st Street. Southbound traffic will use the center turn lane. Sioux Falls Public Works Department will be repairing a water valve. The work is anticipated to take until Monday evening.

Lane Closure: The outside southbound lane on Louise Avenue will be closed at 34th Street. The closure will shift south to 41st Street as work progresses. Southbound traffic will use the inside southbound lane. Xcel Energy will perform utility work. The project's completion is scheduled for Friday, June 20.

Bike Path Closure: The bike path across Russell Street will be closed. The contractor will be paving through Russell Street at the intersection of Kiwanis Avenue. The path is expected to be open on Tuesday, June 10.

Wednesday, June 11

Lane Closure: At 8:30 a.m., the outside westbound lane of Sixth Street will be closed between Phillips Avenue and Dakota Avenue. Dakota Avenue will also be closed to through traffic between Sixth Street and Main Avenue. Access will be provided to local traffic. Xcel Energy is installing new utilities. The project's completion is scheduled for Thursday evening.

Thursday, June 12

Street Closure: Grange Avenue will be closed to through traffic between 18th Street and 20th Street. Traffic will be detoured to West Avenue. Henry Carlson Company will be constructing a pedestrian bridge. The work is anticipated to be finsihed by the evening of July 11.

Partial Closure: Construction crews will work on Kiwanis Avenue between West 31st Street and West 33nd Street. Traffic will be shifted but will be maintained in both directions at all times. The project is anticipated to take one week.
