Sioux Falls Precinct Breakdown

November 9, 2011, 5:00 PM by Don Jorgensen

Sioux Falls Precinct Breakdown
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Just like Tuesday night's city election, not only were voters split on a multi-million dollar events center, so were the precincts.

The final vote was 58 percent yes and 42 percent no. But when you break down the vote precinct by precinct, it's a tale of two cities.

We've taken a map of the city's 57 precincts and color-coded them to give you a clear indication who was for the events center and who was against it.

CLICK TO VIEW LARGER IMAGE             Red indicates the precincts that voted no. The precincts where the plan passed are green. As you can see the city is pretty much split in half north and south.

Only seven precincts north of 21st Street voted for the Events Center; otherwise, the north side of Sioux Falls was pretty much against borrowing the $115 million dollars to build it.

Look at all the green to the south. Virtually everything south of 21st Street voted for the Events Center.  The only exception is the 5-11 precinct, which is the polling place at South Dakota Achieve.

Even the neighborhood surrounding the future events center was split. The precinct northwest of the site voted no. Those south and east of the future events center voted in favor of the multi-million dollar plan.

There were more than 40,000 ballots cast in Tuesday's election.  That's just over 40 percent voter turnout.
