The city estimates nearly 159,000 people now call Sioux Falls home.
That's based on a year-end evaluation of growth for the end of 2012. It is a 2,500-person increase over 2011, which is a 1.6 percent annual increase.
The city says increases in employment; quality parks and schools; low crime rates; and an excellent transportation network make Sioux Falls a place people want to live.
In the last 10 years, the city's population has grown by more than 24,000 people or at a rate of 1.67 percent.
