Last year, new construction values broke an all-time record at $588 million in Sioux Falls. This year isn't off to as strong of a start as 2013.
New building permits issued in January totaled nearly $23 million. That's down from about $38 million in January last year.
One major difference is that the number of permits for new apartment buildings is down.
But hospital construction and new single-family homes are right in line with last year. And many of those being built are high-end homes.
