Sioux Falls Kitchen & Bath Open For Business

January 14, 2013, 6:00 PM by Don Jorgensen

Sioux Falls Kitchen & Bath Open For Business
TEA, SD -

Investigators are on the scene on Monday looking for the cause of Sunday's devastating fire in Tea.

Sioux Falls Kitchen and Bath, which is just east of Interstate 29, went up in flames around 4:30 p.m. Sunday destroying one of the buildings. But as bad as the damage looks, the owners want you to know they are still open for business.

Smoke and flames could be seen from miles away as fire crews from several communities tried saving Sioux Falls Kitchen and Bath.  The building that burned to the ground is where workers stained and finished cabinetry.

"That's totally gone," sales manager Mike Slowey said.

On Monday, our cameras were allowed to get a little closer at the damage. The twisted and charred metal is still smoldering.

"We had a truck that was in there, barely recognize that, our delivery truck that was parked inside and that's gone. We lost a couple of pickups, there's nothing salvageable out of there," Slowey said.

Fire investigators for the insurance company are now taking on the daunting task of pin pointing where the fire started and what might have caused it.

"It could take days, sometimes it takes weeks. It just depends on the complexity of the investigation and what we find in the early stages," insurance fire investigator Chris Rallis said.

The owners credit the fire fighters who saved most of the buildings allowing them to still do business.

"We are going to get a satellite building and do our finishing and staining in there. We are actually building cabinets today. We were able to still build cabinets and then we'll stain and finish at a satellite building for a bit, until we get a building put up here and keep building cabinets," Slowey said.

So far, there's no estimate on the cost of the damage.
