The Sioux Falls School Board met Monday evening, and approved funding for boys and girls soccer as sanctioned high school sports, beginning in the fall of 2014. Official approval will come at the board's July, 2014, meeting. Rapid City is expected to approve the measure on Tuesday night.
The South Dakota Soccer Assocation had informed its members in 2012, that it would stop funding its clubs after the 2014 season. A number of programs, including Sioux Falls O'Gorman, Aberdeen, and Mitchell made the move in 2012.
A decision on whether to sanction soccer was required prior to the South Dakota High School Activities Association's Board of Directors meeting on April 22nd.
