Sioux Falls Regional Airport is planning to add its first onsite hotel rooms to cater to the out-of-town traveler looking to catch a good night's rest before an early flight.
Airport Executive Director Dan Letellier says the four-story hotel will offer 74 efficiency rooms that are smaller than normal featuring queen-size beds, flat-screen TVs and fold-down work stations.
The airport authority board approved a 30-year lease for the hotel. It will be built and run by U.S. Hotel & Resort Management, which manages Ramkota and ClubHouse Suites properties. The company will pay the airport eight percent of hotel revenue as rent.
Construction will begin in June on the site north of the terminal where an employee parking lot and a cargo now stand. Opening is planned for early 2015.
