Sinksen Advances To Sectional Qualifying For U.S. Open
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Michael Berg of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Danny Sinksen of Sioux Falls have advanced in their quest to play in this year’s United States Open Golf Championship after local qualifying Monday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

Berg was the medalist Monday, firing a 2-under-par 69. Sinksen, the head golf professional at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, shot an even-par 71 and earned the second automatic berth after defeating Max Donohue of Sioux Falls on the first playoff hole. Donohue, a senior at O’Gorman who will play next fall at the University of Arizona, is the first alternate. Collin Hammer of Sioux Falls, a freshman at Augustana College, shot 74 and earned the second alternate position.

Berg and Sinksen will both compete in sectional qualifying on June 2. The U.S. Open will be played June 12-15 on the Pinehurst No. 2 Course in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
