Mention the term sinkhole and most people expect the location would be in Florida or Louisiana.
Now you can add downtown Sioux Falls to the list.
A sinkhole sprouted last Friday just south of the intersection of 14th Street and Phillips Avenue and it's been growing ever since. The pit now warrants construction barriers and a roadblock.
Public Works Director Mark Cotter says the issue is connected to a failure in the pipe connecting the private property to the city's main sewer pipes under Phillips Avenue. He adds that fixing the problem could last through Friday.
