Raven Industry employees got a quick pep talk Wednesday from one of the leading minds in business growth and motivation
Best-selling author and motivational speaker Simon Sinek looks to impart business wisdom every time he takes to a stage. How he became known as a business expert is unconventional, starting during a time he lost his passion for work.
"I set out to try and solve this problem and re-find my passion, and I discovered this thing called the 'Why,' this naturally-occurring biological response. It transformed my life and restored my passion to levels I never had before. I shared it with my friends, because that's what we do, we share something beautiful with the people we love," Sinek said.
Finding the purpose for what we do led Sinek to speak about ways to make business people's lives better, lessons he's learned by speaking with many different companies worldwide.
"We're kind of living in somewhat leaderless times these days. There are vastly fewer leaders inspiring us to feel safe when we go to work every day than we should. So, mine is a call to action to stand up and be the leaders we wish we had," Sinek said.
He is able to look at a specific company from the outside and tell whether their leadership is sending them in the right direction.
"I always listen to whether the people or some long-term visions are the focus, or is it more short-term oriented at the expense of human beings," Sinek said.
Even though he speaks with some of the biggest companies in the world, Sinek's message of success and caring for people still translates to the smallest of businesses.
"I don't care how good your technology is, I don't care how good your marketing is, I don't care how good your numbers are, if you don't understand people, you don't understand business," Sinek said.
Sinek says that the leadership qualities shown at Raven Industries at every level give him the impression that the business will only continue to grow.
