What a difference a week makes. Last week the sidewalks of downtown were full of shoppers enjoying warm temperatures with the deals of Small Business Saturday.
Today it is almost 50 degrees colder. The sidewalks are not nearly as full as they were a week ago, but some shoppers are still out in the elements. With 6 fewer shopping days compared to average holiday seasons between Thanksgiving and Christmas, people I spoke with have no choice but to start their shopping in the sub-zero temperatures.
“Everybody that's been coming in we've actually been hearing a lot of people that are just starting to do their shopping. So I think there's not many days left until Christmas and it's sneaking up on everybody,” Krista Welch from Lillian’s said.
Owners say that foot traffic around downtown has decreased this weekend, because people are just going from their cars right into the store they wanted to go to, without browsing other stores.
