December 27, 2011, 5:54 PM
CANTON, SD -
The three men who were caught Monday stealing from a Shindler home by the homeowners were in court Tuesday.
Twenty-four-year-old Brandon Mahone is charged with aiding and abetting second degree burglary. Twenty-year-old Trelee Hamer is charged with second degree burglary and receiving stolen property. Sixty-five-year-old Elmos Hopkins is charged with second degree burglary, grand theft and having a firearm while being a convicted felon.
Hopkins has been convicted of armed robbery in the past.
Authorities say this attempted robbery is similar to other crimes in the Shindler area.
"At least a few daytime burglaries where firearms and jewelery were taken; we're investigating to see if these individuals had anything to do with those," Lincoln County State's Attorney Tom Wollman said.
Authorities say more charges could follow.
