SFPD: Man In Video Linked To Homicide

Sioux Falls police say the man who appears in surveillance video released Wednesday is not only a person of interest in a Sioux Falls homicide but investigators believe he is directly responsible for Kari Kirkegaard’s death.

Police said Thursday they believe the man in that video arrived at Kirkegaard's house on a bicycle and at some point between midnight and sunrise Saturday morning he took off in Kirkegaard's Ford Explorer. He then returned the Explorer to Kirkegaard’s driveway before sunrise Saturday morning.

The vehicle is a 1998 dark blue Ford Explorer with a number 15 racing decal on the lower left rear window. If anyone saw that vehicle early Saturday morning they are asked to call CrimeStoppers at (605) 367-7007.

Investigators are also asking people to be on the lookout for an abandoned bike.

Police expect to release more surveillance pictures Thursday.

Kirkegaard's visitation is from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. Thursday night at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Her funeral is Friday at Peace Lutheran Church.
