If you don't have shopping at the top of your holiday list there's another tradition Friday night in Sioux Falls that might get you in the spirit. The Parade of Lights kicks off in Downtown Sioux Falls.
And the cold temperature aren’t stopping many from lining Phillips Avenue Friday night.
Phillips Avenue closed at 6 p.m. to all traffic, so people could get settled and find a spot to watch the parade, which starts at 7:30 p.m. The street is also closed for the Jingle Bell run. That starts at 6:30 p.m.
The parade route is pretty simple. It runs through downtown Sioux Falls just outside of our studio from 14th Street all the way to 5th Street on Phillips Avenue.
And people were preparing early this year. Around 2 p.m. Friday, some people were even setting up their chairs to watch the parade.
And don’t forget about the floats. They are judged for:
- Use of lights
- Spirit of Sioux Falls
- Mayor's Choice
- Downtown Sioux Falls Award.
Those are given out in a ceremony following the parade at the downtown Holiday Inn City Centre.
We also want to remind you that parking is not allowed on Phillips Avenue during the parade. But, all of the parking ramps are open and all of the parking ramps are free after 6 p.m.
We are also streaming the Parade of Lights on our live coverage page.
