A 22-year-old Sioux Falls man who admitted to texting and driving and killing a motorcyclist in the summer of 2012 will be sentenced Tuesday afternoon.
Brent O'Neal pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December in the death of 33-year-old Philip Sorensen.
On July 25, 2012, the day before O'Neal's 21st birthday, the Sioux Falls man says he was texting and driving on Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls when he hit and killed Sorensen who was riding his motorcycle at the time.
O'Neal made the confession to a visitor at the Minnehaha County Jail. O’Neal said he was texting and when he looked up he just started crashing into things at the intersection of 26th and Minnesota.
As part of the plea agreement O'Neal will face a maximum of 13 years in prison.
