SF Dog Recovering From Rare Spider Bite

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A Sioux Falls dog is recovering from a rare spider bite and the effects of the bite aren't pretty.
It's been ten days since Dew Wah was bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider. It's one of only two spiders that live in our area that have fangs long enough to puncture human or dog skin. But the veterinarian treating the animal says you shouldn't panic because this is only the second bite he's treated in 36 years.
“I think recluse spiders, because of the name, they're reclusive. They hide probably in wood piles and places like that and maybe that's where you'd be likely to contact them,” Sam Lukens of the Lukens Animal Clinic said.
When bit by this spider, people get a distinctive marking but that's not visible on dogs because of their fur.
