It’s a big night for Sioux Falls as the city breaks ground on its much anticipated events center.
Thursday was a big day for Sioux Falls and the people within the city that have been working and pushing toward this, nobody more so than Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether.
It’s taken a lot of planning to get this far.
“We want to make this a memorable day and I think we’ve done that,” Huether said.
Huether credits all of the people who worked hard to make this day happen.
“Kendra Siemonsma has worked so hard to make sure that we try to capture all of the people that we involved along this event center journey because it wasn’t just me that did this,” Huether said. “We have been talking about this in this town for over 13 or 14 years.”
Huether says there were other leaders and citizens way before him that helped make this a reality for the city of Sioux Falls.
Some dirt work has already begun, but you’ll be able to see the building process happen very quickly. Soon you will begin to see steel beams come into the construction area and then they will become erected.
“And then you are going to see so much activity and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Huether said. “We want to get as much done before the winter hits.”
Once inside, crews will begin to work on the suites and stadium seats.
“It is going to be one of the premium event centers in the county and it’s going to be right here in Sioux Falls and right here in South Dakota,” Huether said. “I know that some people don’t believe that, but it is. We are doing it right. We are doing it in a prudent way, but it’s going to be a wonderful facility when it’s all done.
Huether says you can watch the development process on www.siouxfalls.org. They will be livestreming the entire building process, including putting camera inside, once the building starts to take shape.
