Sexton To Adopt Care Of Neglected Cemetery

April 1, 2012, 11:02 AM

ABERDEEN, SD -

The sexton for the Warner Township Cemetery will begin caring for a cemetery on the edge of Aberdeen that has been mostly neglected for decades.

Terry Roeszler says that the plot known as Christian Homestead or Fulker Cemetery is considered abandoned because nobody officially has been in charge of maintaining it.  Only two of the headstones are upright, and the surrounding grass is tall.

Roeszler says he plans to level the ground, replant grass and put a fence around the land, which is north of Warner and adjacent
to Moccasin Creek.

A dozen people are believed to be buried there since 1888.
