Seven Liens Filed Against Beef Plant
February 18, 2009, 11:19 AM
Just over $7 million in mechanic's liens have been filed against the Northern Beef Packers plant under construction south of Aberdeen.
A seventh lien was filed Tuesday in the Brown County Courthouse. County officials say all the liens are still pending.
The largest are $2.1 million to a Huron company for dirt work; $1.75 million to an Omaha, Nebraska, company for materials, installation and labor; and just under $1 million to a Fargo, North Dakota, firm for a pre-engineered steel structure and other work.
A company official was busy and could not comment.
Backers say that once it's fully operational, the $40 million plant could process 1,500 head of livestock a day and employ about 650 people. The beef plant's opening has been delayed several times.
