Sentencing Trial Begins Monday For James McVay
James McVay

A sentencing hearing will begin on Monday for James McVay, a confessed murderer.

McVay pleaded guilty but mentally ill to killing a Sioux Falls woman in the summer of 2011. Now, a jury will decide if he will be put to death or sentenced to life.

In July of 2011, McVay admits to sneaking into 75-year-old Maybelle Schein's Sioux Falls home and stabbing her to death. He took her car and headed out of town.

Authorities eventually caught up to him in Madison, Wisconsin. While in jail there, he gave a revealing interview to a TV reporter.

McVay said he had no remorse for killing Schein, saying she was in his way from carrying out his mission to kill President Barack Obama.

Tony Galli of WKOW: Do you have regret that you took this well-respected, beloved woman's life in South Dakota?
McVay: Not in the least; none, in fact. I would do it again and again and again if I get an opportunity. Anything to take care of my mission.

On Monday morning, jury selection will begin to pick 12 jurors and three alternates. The process is expected to last more than a week. McVay's sentencing trail is expected to last around four weeks.
