BURNSVILLE, MN -
Senior linebacker Nick Bonte has been named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, giving USF the defensive honor for the first time this season.
The Garretson product was credited for 10 tackles, 2.5 for a loss of 16 yards, in the No. 21-ranked Cougars' 32-21 double-overtime victory against Augustana College. He also sacked Viking signal caller Josh Hanson seven yards behind the line of scrimmage and blocked an extra point to make the score 14-8 in favor the USF going into halftime.
Bonte now has 197 career tackles to go with 11 sacks and three interceptions
It is the second week in a row that USF has earned an NSIC player of the week nod, as senior quarterback Taylor Perkins won the offensive player of the week award last week.
Bonte's is the fourth overall player of the week honor for the Cougars.
The Cougars will host Upper Iowa for homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 27 with kickoff scheduled for noon.
