Senate Petitions Being Investigated By AG

Senate Petitions Being Investigated By AG
PIERRE, SD -

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says he's investigating accusations of wrongdoing related to several nominating petitions submitted by U.S. Senate candidates, but the process won't affect who appears on this year's ballots.

Secretary of State Jason Gant asked the office to review the petitions submitted by candidates for potential violations of criminal law that are outside the authority of Gant's office.

Jackley says the courts have made it clear that any investigation into potential criminal violations should not affect an election if at all possible. He says many violations of election laws do not rise to the level of criminal misconduct.

Republican candidate Dr. Annette Bosworth is one of the candidates being reviewed. Her campaign says, "we respect the process and look forward to the resolution of this matter."
