U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says he opposes President Barack Obama's nominee for ambassador to Norway.
The South Dakota Democrat is joining others who believe that George Tsunis is not the right person for the job.
Tsunis is CEO of Chartwell Hotels and a top Democratic political fundraiser. Concerns were raised about his nomination after a poor performance in his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee earlier this year.
Johnson says Tsunis' lack of knowledge about Norway doesn't give him confidence that the nominee would be an effective ambassador.
U.S. Sen. John Thune also has criticized the nomination. The South Dakota Republican says Obama is repaying a political favor rather than appointing a qualified candidate.
