Sioux Falls Police have released the names of the suspect and victim in the city's second homicide of 2014.
Authorities say 53-year-old Brenda Hansen was found dead in a home on West Misty Glen Place Wednesday afternoon. Hansen's roommates saw the suspect leaving the home and wrote down a license plate number for his car.
Police found the suspect at a home on South Theodore Avenue just before 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon less than a half hour after Hansen was killed. The suspect, 41-year-old John Senn, faces a number of charges including first-degree murder, robbery and burglary.
Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel says they believe Senn stole oxycontin pills from Hansen. Barthel adds that Hansen and Senn knew each other.
Investigators say Senn stabbed Hansen to death and authorities are asking for the public's help in finding the murder weapon. Barthel says they are looking for a knife and gloves that are possibly in a Hy-Vee grocery bag. The bag could be somewhere between Hansen's home and the Theodore Avenue address where Senn was taken into custody. If you see the bag, Barthel urges the public not to touch it but to call police.
Senn is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon in Canton. He faces up to life in prison.
A Brenda Hansen Memorial Fund has been set up for Hansen's daughter at any Home Federal Bank.
