Season's Start Too Warm, Windy For Ski Park
January 12, 2012, 1:23 PM
SIOUX FALLS, SD -
First, it wasn't cold enough to make snow. Now, it's too windy to open. It seems the Great Bear ski park is having a tough season.
Great Bear announced through its website Thursday that it is closed because of high winds. Last week, managers said the mild start to the winter had prevented them from making as much snow as they normally would have by this time of year.
On top of that, the temperate weather wasn't doing much for creating the right mindset for skiing. Dan Grider says business was down more than 30% compared with last year.
The ski park is set to reopen at 9 a.m. Friday.
