Search For Missing Hunters Resumes In Black Hills

Search For Missing Hunters Resumes In Black Hills
Gary Wipf | Clifford Wipf

*UPDATE: The men were found Tuesday afternoon.

Search crews are back out looking for two hunters who have been missing since Sunday afternoon.

Gary Wipf, 74, and Clifford Wipf, 83, were last seen turkey hunting in the Deerfield Lake area.  Since that time, western South Dakota has had heavy snow.  The winter weather conditions have made searching for the men difficult.  With new snow on top of old snow and drifts several feet deep, rescuers must use tracked vehicles to get around.  There are five snowcats and four snowmobiles being used.

Dangerous winds and very low visibility have not allowed for searches from the air.

The men were driving a  red 2004 Toyota SR5 pickup truck with a topper,  SD license plate 2NP 924.

If you have any information, please contact the Pennington County Sheriff's Office at 394-2151.
