SDSU Students, Fans Plan Viewing Parties

SDSU Students, Fans Plan Viewing Parties
BROOKINGS, SD -

At the South Dakota State University Bookstore, Jackrabbit fans make last minute preparations before the big games. Among them is SDSU sophomore Megan Devos, who will be keeping tabs on the tournament from the dorms.

"We want to watch it with our friends because that's how we've been going to the games and stuff so it is kind of a thing that we all watch it together," Devos said.

Anna Taylor will see the games in a classroom on a projection screen with other graduate students.

"We get to watch it, just us. We can comment on the game and not have to deal with the crowds," Taylor said.

But for those want to be a part of a crowd, they can find it at Cubby's Sports Bar and Grill. Owner Gus Theodosopoulos is beefing up staff to serve the more than 300 people expected at tip-off.

"We've had busy nights before where the Jacks have played, but nothing like this," Theodosopoulos said.

Reservations at Cubby's are so sought after, management has had to cut people off and stop accepting them.

"It is SDSU.  It is the first time the men have been in the tournament, the fourth time the women have been in the tournament so it adds to the excitement of the night," Thodosopoulos said.

But for many fans that don't have the opportunity to sit and watch the games, they will still be plugged in.

"I'll have my cell phone with me, my smart phone, and checking scores and that kind of thing," Jason Soren said.

The SDSU men play Baylor Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.. The women play Purdue Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
