SDSU Fans Looking Forward To NCAA Tournament

SDSU Fans Looking Forward To NCAA Tournament
BROOKINGS, SD -

The South Dakota State University men's and women's basketball teams are heading to NCAA tournament after big overtime wins Tuesday night in Summit League championship games. And even though it's spring break on campus, students are still excited about the success.

Wednesday, the SDSU campus was quiet because all the students are on spring break, but the few that were on campus are still pumped up.

"After that game when we stormed the court, it was awesome.  Everyone was just giving hugs; you didn't know anyone, but high-fives all around.  Hugs everywhere. People want to go, people want to go and watch both teams compete at the next tournament," SDSU sophomore Alex Heard said.

Heard was at the men's game and says it's exciting that the men are making their first trip to the national tournament, and it's even more incredible that the women's team is making their fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

"The women we're getting used to it, but it's still exciting.  And then the men, when we have both going, it's a whole other level of excitement so it's awesome for us," Heard said.

The SDSU bookstore has been busy ordering championship T-shirts for both teams.

"We were originally just going to do 100 of the men's, but we had such a high response with people, we ended up going to 500 so there's plenty of T-shirts to go around for the men's team," Steve Brua said.

The bookstore has the shirts up on their Facebook page and will start taking pre-orders Thursday morning.  And when students go back to classes, next week the hoops hoopla is only going to get bigger.

"I think it's going to be big talk on campus. That's all we're really going to have to talk about for a week until we play Thursday, Friday, whatever happens. It will be awesome," Heard said.

The men will find out when and where they will play during the tournament selection show Sunday night at 5 p.m. central time on KELOLAND TV.

The women's selection show will be Monday night on ESPN.

You can find more information on getting your championship T-shirts online.
