South Dakota Department of Transportation will have its regional Safety Awareness Day on April 22.
The meeting will be in Mitchell to discuss the safety of employees and the traveling public.
The topics include personal responsibility, distracted driving, developing safe working practices and recognizing employees who have demonstrated safe work habits by driving 150,000 or more miles without an accident or by working 30 or more years with no personal injuries.
Employees of SDDOT are working in high risk situations as they work to provide safer highway systems by plowing snow, maintaining safe roads providing traffic signing, mowing or reconstructing highways.
SDDOT says it is important to educate and motivate staff as construction season begins.
