YANKTON, SD -
A Yankton woman is accused of killing a cat with a hammer in front of an apartment building manager who accused her of a rule violation.
Fifty-two-year-old Mary Thompson faces a misdemeanor charge of killing or injuring an animal. A telephone listing for her could not immediately be found.
Police say the manager told them that when she confronted Thompson about having one too many cats in her apartment on Monday, Thompson picked up a hammer, grabbed a cat from a couch by the neck and began striking it on the head. Authorities say Thompson allegedly disposed of the dead cat in a dumpster.
