The South Dakota Division of Motor Vehicles is switching to an electronic system for storing vehicle lien recordings and title applications that denote a lien.
Beginning Monday, lien recordings and title applications denoting liens will not be issued a paper title document. The title document will be retained in the state's computer system, and a paper vehicle title certificate will be printed when the lien is released.
Division of Motor Vehicles director Deb Hillmer says the new system will provide a more effective and efficient way to handle the documents.
