SD Unveils Online Campaign Finance System

November 7, 2011, 4:37 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

SIOUX FALLS, SD - It will soon be a lot easier for South Dakotans to see who is donating to different candidates, causes and campaigns.

Secretary of State Jason Gant unveiled changes to the entire campaign finance reporting system on Monday. All finance reports will now be filed online.

The search engine has also been improved so it's easier for citizens to look up the reports.

"It's extremely user friendly for the public. So if they want to see who contributed to my campaign, they can do that," South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant said. "If they see something like, 'What's the South Dakota Republic Party,' they can then click on that and then it would bring up who that is and who they gave money to."

The changes will be live on the Secretary of State's website beginning December 1, and candidates can start filing their reports on the new website in January.
