SD Shooting, Standoff Suspect To Change Pleas
October 2013

An Eagle Butte man charged in a shootout in Hyde County and a standoff with law officers in Pierre last October is scheduled to change his pleas.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jason Todd Garreau earlier pleaded not guilty to 19 counts, including three counts of attempted murder of a federal law officer. He is due in court Wednesday afternoon.

During the Hyde County shootout, 24-year-old John Garreaux, of Dupree, was killed. In the nine-hour standoff at the Pierre mobile home, two police officers were wounded by gunfire.
