The South Dakota Senate has approved a bill to fund four projects around the state with $2.46 million.
Because it requires state funding, the bill needed support from two thirds of the chamber, which it barely received. Senators voted 24-9 in support of the measure.
The bill has passed the House and will move next to Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
It provides $1 million for the Lewis and Clark Rural Water System. It also funds a shale research facility, airport improvements and the Readiness and Environmental Protection and Integration buffer program at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
Opponents of the measure worry it's unconstitutional to put so many different projects in a single bill. Supporters say the projects are important and the generic title of the bill encompasses the projects covered.
